Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced a landmark $1.4 billion settlement with three Wells Fargo affiliates to pay back investors, charities and small businesses that purchased auction-rate securities based on "misleading advice."
Seeking to recover more than $200 million in illegal overcharges and penalties, Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced that he has filed suit against State Street Bank and Trust -- one of the world's leading providers of financial services to institutional investors -- for committing 'unconscionable fraud' against California's two largest pension funds -- CalPERS and CalSTRS.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. presented six California peace officers who "exhibited extraordinary bravery in the line of duty" with the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor at a Capitol ceremony on September 10, 2009.
Threatening possible criminal and civil prosecution, Attorney General Brown ordered 386 mortgage foreclosure consultants to post $100,000 bonds and register with his office.
